"After much research I had decided on the Napco Gemini alarm panel. Then I stumbled upon a new UK system called Comfort. Comfort is an extremely competent security panel and can form the centre of a Home Automation system. I contracted a local alarm company to do the cabling work for the Comfort Alarm system. Comfort can do many exciting things. For example, you can control appliances in your home via phone from anywhere in the world!

In place of a doorbell, Comfort's doorphone makes all the telephones in the house ring. Simply answer the phone to talk to whoever's at your door. When the house is unoccupied and the alarm is set, Comfort can call our mobile with it's dialler and I can talk to whoever is at my door without them even knowing that I'm not actually inside! If my mobile is off or out of range, Comfort will even record a message from my visitor.

With it's 12V inputs and outputs, using the home control menu, Comfort can interface to things like electric garage doors, wireless transmitters etc, etc. I would say one thing. If you're only going to put one element of HA into your home then make it a Comfort Alarm!! "

"I have installed my Comfort alarm and it is superb. The only problem is that I have programmed many responses to trigger X-10 commands but none of them seem to work. I have a lot of X-10 kit and it all works fine around the house but when I use the control menu in comfort nothing happens. Is there anyway I can check that the X-10 interface is actually working. All I can see on the interface is a red led that is on so it must have power.

All sorted. I wiggled the lead at the comfort end and it all works wonderfully now.

I have had no end of comments about my Comfort security system - most people are fascinated by the technology. Also, I think that both Comfort or Homevision are really great and work very well together"

I'm having a blast so far with Comfort. I spent the first week just re-doing my workshop so I can easily switch various devices from their current connection to Comfort so I can test easier. I like all the capability and the voice messaging, mail boxes and ability to call my cell phone when the doorbell button is pushed. Having fun in Ohio with Comfort.

"Hi, A couple of things: Firstly, thanks for the advice about the selection of the correct zone type (Normally Open or Normally Closed) for the PIR with an X10 response - switching from zone type 8 to type 9 (N.C.), did the trick and the response is now instantaneous, as one would expect. Secondly, you'll be glad to hear that troubleshooting steps we discussed to try to resolve my Keypad issue. as soon as I connected the new Keypad in place of my original one, VIOLA! - complete success, totally stable & reliable operation - signed in as 2 or 3 different users, recorded user names & greeting message, and tested and checked answering machine function - all 100% successful. Anyway, my system is now behaving perfectly, and I am a very happy bunny! THANKS A MILLION for your help, it has been absolutely invaluable, and I really appreciate it. :-)))

"A quick note to say that the remote access via the telephone interface to Comfort really proved its worth this weekend: The tamper cover on one of the sensors worked loose triggering an alarm activation. This phoned us up since we were away to report 'intruder alert'. This was a bit worrying at first! However, because you can interrogate the system log over the phone, I could tell that one sensor has reported a 'trouble' and none had reported any 'movement', making it unlikely that anyone had actually broken in. Over the phone, I could then stop the sirens, re-configure the alarm to exclude the faulty zone, and re-arm the system, which put my mind at rest enough to be able to continue enjoying our break away from home. Without the log facilities or the ability to re-configure over the phone (using no manuals), the alarm would either have severely annoyed the neighbours, or forced us to cut short our break to put my paranoia at ease... "

"A good job well done, well partly, till the house is extended anyway. Stand back grin. Now tell the wife to watch the light as I switch it ON and OFF with the telephone.
What have we got here... Another boy with toys, a comfort system installed, well the security side anyway. I must add, the information in the manuals and the support from Comfort has been excellent, it is easy to get lost in the technology but from the simple to not so simple problems, my questions were answered online. The only thing I need now is more money for X-10 units and external pir's and cameras and .. and.... but back to reality. The comfort system does exactly what it claims and is also easy to operate. The CS-Xpress download software helps a lot when trying a number of configurations. I was looking at a way to enter HA and now believe I have a very good system which can be expanded upon. Finally many thanks to Chiu from Cytech who phoned me from Singapore to test a setup on my Comfort system. As I have said previously, the backup which I and many others have received for their Comfort system is EXCEPTIONAL.
PS. It's great when travelling home, call up and put the central heating on, welcome home to a lovely warm house. "
